We have three levels to our academy. The aim of this approach is not to judge children on their ability as a player, but to give them the chance to work with and against children of a similar ability to give them the best chance possible to improve. The three levels are the academy, the development squads and the recreational groups.
The academy group is invite only, and squads will be kept to low numbers to ensure coaches are able to get to know each child and give them as much attention as possible as individuals. These squads will PURELY be based on attitude and ability, and will not be affected by any other factors, personal or otherwise. Children in this group will be put on Individual Development Plans, which will focus on helping each child reach their own potential as an individual. Our aim is very much on improving individual children, and although we also want to create winning teams, individuals are always the focus. Ideally, children in this group would attend two team training sessions per week (one working to a syllabus, and one preparing for the next match) and will also have an optional ball manipulation session (exclusive to academy players), and the option of individual training sessions. Players in this group are expected to be committed to improving themselves as a player.
