Training Groups

Little Lions

Ages 2 - 4 years old

For our Little Lions, the focus is on fun, fundamental movement skills, and developing good behaviours. The main aim to make sessions fun, and to ensure that children want to continue playing sport. Coaches will also look to develop fundamental movement skills (agility, balance, coordination) and introduce some basic football-specific skills. To prepare children for the Foundation Phase, a big emphasis is put on developing good behaviours and values such as hard work, respect, listening skills and teamwork.

Foundation Phase

Ages 5 - 10 years old

The main focus during the Foundation Phase is to ensure that children develop a solid base of technical and physical movement. As well as continuing to work on fundamental movement skills, more football-specific technical skills are introduced and practiced heavily until they become good habits. The priority for this age range is to be dominant when playing 1 v 1, both as an attacker and as a defender, learning and practicing tricks and skills to beat players, and also the essentials of defending. Basic tactical ideas are also introduced to the group, as the children reach 10-11 years old, different strategies will be practiced in training with the aim of implementing them in matches.

Players will be split into teams based on their current ability and attitude, see below the teams and expected training commitments:

Academy Team

Two or three sessions a week, games on a Sunday

Development Team

Once or twice a week, games on a Sunday

Recreational

Train once or twice a week

We strive to have all our teams train twice weekly to optimise their learning, please note teams will be based on each players current ability

Development Phase

Ages 11 - 16 years old

Children in the Youth Development phase should already have a decent technical base, but will still work heavily on technical aspects to excel in this area. Children will now look more closely at different tactical aspect of the game, and will be more involved in problem solving in regards to what tactics the team implement during matches. The aim for children by the end of this phase is to have a good understanding of different ways to approach a game of football tactically, and understand how to adapt to different circumstances during the game. Players should now begin to make more intelligent decisions with the ball, which will be made easier by having a good base of technical ability

Players will be split into teams based on their current ability and attitude, see below the teams and expected training commitments:
